DiCE - Digital Channel Emulator
DiCE is a cost-effective digital satellite propagation delay emulator that can be expanded to also include physical layer channel modelling. It introduces the configured propagation delay in the RF channel, supporting up to 40 MHz bandwidth with multicarrier configuraiton of continous and burst (TDMA) channels.
DiCE performs time delay of RF channels in a totally transparent way, adding the propagation delay experienced for geostationary satellite communications. The satellite delay can be adjusted between 230 and 450 milliseconds with a 20 nanasecond resolution.
The core DiCE functionality operates at IF ( 70 MHz) with a bandwidth from 0 - 90 MHz.
Normally the DiCE is used with an RF interface utilising a RF to IF downconverter, such as an L-band to 70 MHz down- and upconverter. In this configuration the useful bandwidth is limited by the down- and upconverter bandwidth, typically 70 MHz +/- 18 MHz.
